Our Carbon Neutrality and Daily Practices,
Building Consensus and Expanding Climate Action
Miryang City in Gyeongnam Province has designated the week from the 22nd to the 28th as Climate Change Week to commemorate the 54th 'Earth Day' and will hold an 'Earth Day' lights-out event for 10 minutes from 8 PM on the 22nd to foster consensus on carbon neutrality and promote climate action.
The slogan for Climate Change Week is "Practicing Our Carbon Neutral Life, It's Actually Great!" which conveys that while practicing a carbon-neutral lifestyle may seem inconvenient, it benefits the Earth and returns rewards in the form of carbon-neutral points.
The Earth Day lights-out event involves turning off the lights for 10 minutes at public institutions including the city hall, apartment complexes, and major landmarks, and anyone can participate voluntarily.
Yang Gi-gyu, Director of the Environmental Management Division, stated, "We hope for active participation from citizens in this lights-out event to raise awareness of the seriousness of climate change and the importance of practicing a low-carbon lifestyle."
Meanwhile, Earth Day is a global commemorative day initiated by civilians on April 22, 1970, with the purpose of protecting the Earth's environment, triggered by an offshore oil spill accident in California, USA.
