Ulsan City Requests National Funding for Major Land and Transportation Projects

Ahn Hyo-dae, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, Attends Land, Infrastructure and Transport Budget Council

Includes 12 Projects Such as Ulsan Urban Railway Line 1 Construction

Ulsan City is actively launching a project to secure national funding to ease the bottlenecks in transportation-related pending projects.

On the 16th, Ulsan City attended the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) Budget Council, chaired by the First Vice Minister of MOLIT, held in the MOLIT central conference room, and requested that Ulsan’s major pending projects in the land and transportation sector be reflected in next year’s national upper-level plans and government budget proposals.

Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Ahn Hyo-dae requested national budget support and government plan inclusion for 12 major projects, including ▲Construction of Ulsan Urban Railway (Tram) Line 1 (328 billion KRW) ▲Nongso~Gangdong Road Construction Project (630.5 billion KRW) ▲Access Road Construction to Ulsan KTX Station Area General Industrial Complex (17.3 billion KRW) ▲Ulsan Expressway Urban Underground Project (1.2 trillion KRW) ▲Munsu-ro Bypass Road Construction Project (120 billion KRW) ▲100-Year Regeneration Restart, Overflowing Again at Hogye (33.4 billion KRW) ▲Eonyang~Daun Road Construction Project (689.1 billion KRW) ▲Mipo National Industrial Complex Access Road Expansion Project (24.6 billion KRW) ▲Nammok Life and Urban Up Design (26.2 billion KRW) ▲Improvement Project of Local Road No. 69 (Sangbuk Deokhyeon~Unmun Tunnel) (24.7 billion KRW) ▲Extension of Metropolitan Railway Operation to Buk Ulsan Station (26.2 billion KRW) ▲Janghyeon Urban High-tech Industrial Complex Access Road (24.6 billion KRW).

In particular, Ulsan, the only metropolitan city without an urban railway, proposed the inclusion of 12 billion KRW in next year’s budget to promote the construction of Ulsan Urban Railway Line 1 to overcome the limitations of public transportation and realize future-oriented public transit.

The Ulsan Urban Railway Line 1 construction project has a total project cost of 328 billion KRW. It passed the government’s feasibility re-examination in August last year, underwent central investment review in March this year, and is scheduled to receive basic plan approval and begin design in the second half of this year. Additionally, 20 billion KRW in national funding was requested for the Nongso~Gangdong Road Construction Project.

This project is a key policy project of Ulsan City, selected as exempt from preliminary feasibility study under the national balanced development plan. The project plan’s appropriateness was approved in January this year. Currently, the total project cost adjustment is in the final stage for construction bidding, with construction expected to start around October this year.

Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Ahn Hyo-dae said, “We will actively meet with MOLIT officials to secure national funding in the land and transportation sector and do our best to ensure that the city’s major pending projects are reflected in next year’s budget.”
