Gyeonggi-do Secures 23 Temporary Housing Facilities for Disaster Preparedness

Gyeonggi Province has secured an additional 23 private and public training, retreat, and hospital-level facilities for temporary housing of disaster victims in preparation for large-scale disasters such as infectious diseases and typhoons. The maximum capacity of these facilities is 6,824 people.


Gyeonggi Province announced on the 16th that, since existing temporary housing facilities mostly consist of open spaces such as school auditoriums and village halls, and there were only three facilities in total?one each for training, retreat, and hospital-level facilities?usage was inconvenient due to concerns about the spread of infectious diseases and lack of private spaces. Therefore, an additional 23 housing facilities have been secured.

Since February, Gyeonggi Province has conducted consultations with 156 large-scale facilities in the province (50 training facilities, 31 retreat facilities, and 75 hospitals) and finalized 23 facilities across 15 cities and counties as temporary housing facilities.


Kim Neung-sik, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Safety Management Office, explained, "With the additional securing of these temporary housing facilities, Gyeonggi Province can now provide rapid and efficient relief for disaster victims by preventing secondary damage from infectious diseases and influenza, enhancing privacy protection, and actively supporting vulnerable groups such as the elderly and severely disabled."
