"Income Is Unstable"...2030 Living with Parents and Receiving Allowance

Recruitment Platform Catch Survey
Eight out of Ten Are 'Kaenggeurujok'
Lack of Income and Living Expenses Burden Are the Causes

Eight out of ten people in their 20s and 30s were found to be economically dependent on their parents.

According to a survey conducted by Catch, a recruitment content platform operated by Jinhaksa, targeting 1,903 people in their 20s and 30s about 'economic independence,' 77% of respondents answered that they are "still dependent on their parents." Only 23% responded that they are "completely economically independent."

Among those who are not economically independent, 43% live together in a house under their parents' name, and 41% receive financial support such as monthly rent or allowance. Of these, 7% both live with their parents and receive financial support such as allowance.

The biggest reason why people in their 20s and 30s are not independent was found to be "lack of stable income (56%)." This was followed by ▲burden of living expenses (17%) ▲not feeling the need to be independent (13%) ▲parents being financially comfortable (7%). Other reasons included saving a large sum of money (3%) and psychological comfort (3%).

Those who answered that they have "no plans to become independent at all" accounted for 13%. Even among those who have plans to become independent, 6% responded that they "will not become independent until marriage."
