Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the ‘44th Disabled Persons Day’ commemorative event on the 15th at the Open Stage in Children’s Grand Park.
Disabled Persons Day, now in its 44th year, is a day to deepen understanding of people with disabilities and to encourage their rehabilitation motivation.
Under the slogan “Gwangjin Together, Without Anyone Being Inconvenienced,” the district created a space for overcoming differences and prejudices between people with and without disabilities, fostering harmony and empathy. From the preparation stage, various opinions were directly reflected in the event through communication meetings with disability organizations and facility managers.
The event was held in two parts with about 300 local residents and people with disabilities attending.
The first part, the commemorative ceremony, featured a performance by the Eoullim Arts Group, composed of seven people with developmental disabilities, captivating the audience’s eyes and ears. Awards were presented to 23 citizens and 5 public officials who dedicated themselves to disability welfare. The event’s excitement was further heightened by a ‘card section’ performance commemorating Disabled Persons Day.
The second part included congratulatory performances, talent shows, and prize drawings. Eight teams from six organizations, including Gunja Small Jesus House and Hope Bell, participated in the talent show. The atmosphere reached its peak with a performance by the developmental disability vocal team, ‘Miracle Voice Ensemble.’
Various attractions were also prepared. A 9-meter-wide exhibition wall was installed around the event site, displaying easy-to-understand phrases with photos to accommodate people with disabilities.
Experience booths were also set up at the venue. Various experience and exhibition booths prepared by disability organizations and facilities were operated, including ▲Disability Awareness Improvement Campaign ▲Disability Experience Program ▲Disability Sports Experience ▲Promotion of Products Made by Severely Disabled Persons ▲Disability Employment Counseling, among others.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Just as one must know to understand and understand to love, if we all work together, we can overcome the differences between people with and without disabilities and communicate and harmonize with each other. I will strive steadfastly to be taught and communicate more so that Gwangjin-gu can rise higher and reach a higher level.”
