Pohang City Officially Launches Efforts to Attract the Dream Energy 'Future Clean Energy Research Institute' On the 15th, Pohang City held a kickoff briefing session for the "Feasibility Study for Attracting the Future Clean Energy Research Institute" in the city hall's medium conference room.

At the briefing, more than 20 participants including the service performing agency, Pohang Accelerator Laboratory, POSTECH, Handong University, and other experts from related fields gathered to explore strategies for attracting the Future Clean Energy Research Institute, focusing on establishing a research foundation for leading the artificial sun industry, feasibility, promotion direction, promotion system, and execution methods.

The briefing included discussions and opinions on ▲analysis of the artificial sun industry and feasibility study ▲classification and safety of core artificial sun technologies ▲internal and external environmental analysis for attracting the Future Clean Energy Research Institute ▲and linkage among regional industries.

The "artificial sun" is a large-scale eco-friendly renewable energy using hydrogen fusion technology. It has almost no explosion risk or carbon emissions and is highly efficient, capable of producing energy equivalent to about 8 tons of oil from just 1 gram of hydrogen. It is attracting global attention as a dream energy that will lead the future industrial market worldwide.

Pohang City possesses the Pohang Light Source Accelerator, which led the birth of Korea's large-scale science, as well as a 4th generation light source accelerator. It is home to POSTECH, a world-class research-oriented university, and Handong University, a global talent nurturing institution.

Additionally, excellent infrastructure is concentrated here, including the Pohang Institute of Industrial Science and Technology, a specialized research institute for core technology commercialization; the Max Planck POSTECH Center; the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics; the Nano Convergence Technology Institute; Pohang Technopark, a startup incubation and business support organization; and "Change Up Ground," the nation's top startup space for fostering venture companies, making it an optimal location with strengths in artificial sun research.

The city has been focusing on five key new growth industries?secondary batteries, hydrogen, bio, steel new materials, and future technologies?to secure future food sources through diversification of the regional industrial structure.

Among these, in the energy sector, Pohang City plans to concentrate all capabilities to establish a close cooperative system with Gyeongbuk Province, R&D research institutions, and others to promote ▲building an artificial sun ecosystem ▲joint cooperation in technology development ▲mutual support for human resource development ▲and attracting energy-related institutions to attract the Future Clean Energy Research Institute.

Vice Mayor Jang Sang-gil stated, "We will do our utmost to attract the Future Clean Energy Research Institute so that the flower of the artificial sun can bloom in the mega-science city of Pohang, and we will do our best for the development of national energy."
