Connecting Human and Material Support for Youth Preparing for Independence
Encouraging Community Interest, Expecting Stable Social Settlement
Cheonan City in Chungnam has volunteered to take on the role of ‘parent’ for youth preparing for independence.
On the 15th, the city held the ‘First Step into the World, First Housewarming’ event, a support project for youth preparing for independence, to cheer on their first steps as members of society.
This project was planned to prevent social isolation by supporting household items or sponsorship funds necessary for the first independent living of youth preparing for independence, inspired by the traditional custom of 'housewarming,' and by connecting human resource networks.
Above all, this project started in response to the opinions of youth preparing for independence who said they need a place or an adult they can trust and consult when facing difficulties.
The protagonist of this ‘housewarming’ is a freshman at a university in the Cheonan area, starting their first independent life in a new space. The one-company-one-group-home sponsorship organizations prepared and delivered 25 types of household items such as rice bowls, blankets, and food. The Cheonan Welfare Foundation provided 1 million won for academic encouragement, the Cheonil Lions Club gave a scholarship of 1 million won, and Cheonan City contributed 500,000 won, all offering encouragement.
Yoon Eun-mi, Director of the Childcare Division, said, “We will do our best to ensure that youth do not feel alone by encouraging community interest so that more support reaches youth preparing for independence, helping them settle stably as members of society.”
