Hotel Hyundai "Byrahan Gallery" Mokpo until May 31
Jeonnam Gurye artist Lee Seung-ok, specializing in pressed flower art, is holding her second solo exhibition at the Byurahan Gallery on the first floor of Hotel Hyundai Byurahan Mokpo until May 31.
This exhibition, titled “Invitation to Pressed Flower Paintings,” showcases more than 30 diverse pressed flower artworks.
Lee Seung-ok’s diverse exhibition pieces, including landscape paintings, designs, still lifes, and decorations created with pressed flowers, vividly capture the natural beauty of Jirisan Mountain. The colorful leaves, flowers, and stems become the paint transferred onto the canvas, expressing our lives, happiness, and love.
Pressed flower art (압화, Press of Flower) is called ‘kkotnureum’, ‘kkotnureumi’, or ‘nureumkkot’ in Korean. It is a traditional craft art form that involves drying flowers, leaves, and stems and using them to express the beauty of flowers.
The artist said, “I am very pleased to hold my second solo exhibition,” and added, “I hope many people experience the diverse pressed flower artworks and find cultural healing and relaxation.” She also stated, “I will continue to devote myself to popularizing pressed flower art through consistent work and talent donation activities such as lectures.”
Last year, Lee Seung-ok, a pressed flower (압화) artist specializing in 초예 (Choye, grass art), won the “2023 Jeonnam Women’s Museum Contest 女新 (Yeoshin) Narsha” hosted by the Jeonnam Women and Family Foundation. She held a solo exhibition titled “Another Resurrection of Flowers! Pressed Flower Exhibition ? The Story of Pressed Flowers Painted with Flowers.”
Meanwhile, Gurye-gun, home to the world’s only pressed flower museum, hosts the annual Korea Pressed Flower Grand Exhibition, with the highest award being the Presidential Award. This year marked the 23rd Korea Pressed Flower Grand Exhibition.
