The Korea Financial Investment Association announced on the 15th that it has formed the ‘New Portfolio Korea (NPK) delegation of the Korean asset management industry,’ consisting of CEOs from 19 asset management companies, and will visit Toronto and Montreal, Canada, until the 21st.

The delegation plans to visit Canadian pension funds, including the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), a global top-tier pension fund, as well as leading global artificial intelligence (AI) research institutions.

The delegation will sequentially visit the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP), and Caisse de d?p?t et placement du Qu?bec (CDPQ) to understand the Korean capital market and market outlook from the perspective of Canadian pension funds, as well as key investment sectors. They will also discuss future investment directions and cooperation plans.

Additionally, the delegation will visit AI research institutions and related organizations leading the AI industry in Toronto and Montreal, Canada, which have grown into global AI hubs, including the Vector Institute and MILA. Through this, they aim to enhance their understanding of advanced industries centered on AI, which are attracting worldwide attention.

They also plan to hold an AI industry forum covering the entire AI sector in cooperation with Happy Sona, a local Korean high-tech venture accelerator. The forum will be attended by key figures from local AI-related organizations, including Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Big Fedeli, to discuss cooperation and development directions between the AI industry and the financial investment industry.

This visit schedule was prepared focusing on themes and regions selected through a preliminary survey of asset management companies. The delegation will visit the two cities of Toronto and Montreal for one week. They will have a busy schedule with meetings with major pension funds and AI-related organizations, as well as the Ontario Trade and Investment Office, Canadian financial regulatory authorities, Xanadu, Horizon ETF, MaRS, KPMG Montreal, BCA Research, and others.

Seo Yoo-seok, Chairman of the Korea Financial Investment Association, said, "At a time when risks are increasing due to global economic uncertainties, exchanges with major Canadian pension funds, key players in the asset market, will be a valuable opportunity to review investment strategies in the asset management industry."

He emphasized, "By visiting Canadian AI-related institutions, if the asset management industry explores ways to utilize AI more actively and investment opportunities in the AI industry, it is expected to become another opportunity for value-up in the capital market."
