Gangbuk-gu Prioritizes Women's Safety... Activation of Women's Safety Council

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that it formed a Women's Safety Council (T/F) earlier this year to create a women-friendly city where women can live safely, and held its first meeting at the district office on the 4th.

The Gangbuk-gu Women's Safety Council (T/F) was established to share and coordinate various projects for women's safety between Gangbuk-gu Office and related organizations. It is composed of Gangbuk-gu Office, Gangbuk Police Station, and the Women-Friendly City Resident Participation Group.

The council aims to create a safer Gangbuk-gu for women by ▲ensuring safety in movement and residence through expansion of safety facilities and equipment ▲building a dense safety network through the formation of a safety network ▲and promoting effective projects through cooperation among the public, private, and police sectors.

At the meeting, the 2024 project plans were shared, and various measures to transform safety-vulnerable areas into women’s safe villages were discussed.

Meanwhile, to improve and expand women's safety facilities this year, the district will implement projects such as installing basic number plates for crime prevention by abnormal behavior detection, installing safety screens in public restrooms, installing security CCTV and emergency bells, and improving lighting in residential areas.

Additionally, to create a safe residential environment for women, support will be provided for safety kits, home security (CCTV) service installation, intrusion detection devices, safe keeper houses, and secure delivery boxes. As part of the Safe Village Helper project, the district will operate Safe Return Scouts, the Ansim-i app, and a citizen monitoring group against illegal filming.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, "We will continue to discover and promote safety projects tailored to the characteristics of the region to make Gangbuk-gu a place where women and other safety-vulnerable groups can live with peace of mind."
