Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) is establishing the ‘Seodaemun Naepumae (愛) Center’ (333 Moraenae-ro) to promote a mature pet ownership culture and will hold an opening ceremony at 3 p.m. on the 17th.
The center spans three above-ground floors with a total area of 760㎡, featuring ▲on the 1st floor: a shelter room (protecting up to 18 abandoned dogs), counseling room, playroom, and bath & grooming room ▲on the 2nd floor: an experiential education hall and community room ▲on the rooftop floor: an outdoor playground (education hall).
Based on these facilities, the center will conduct abandoned animal protection and adoption counseling, distribution management, pet-related education, and animal culture classes. It will also support pet owner gatherings and promote animal-assisted therapy programs.
The opening ceremony will include a commemorative ribbon cutting and facility tour, as well as ▲a donation ceremony of therapy dogs, the Sapsal dogs ‘Daebak’ and ‘Daeho’ ▲a demonstration of dog agility (obstacle running) ▲and an aromatherapy making program.
Mayor Lee Seongheon said, “The Seodaemun Naepumae (愛) Center will become a hub space where residents who own pets can communicate and access related one-stop services.”
Meanwhile, last November, Seodaemun-gu opened a 2km circular walking trail where dogs and their owners can walk together in the Yeonhui-dong San 2-14 area, along with three pet rest areas, and a dog playground in the Yeongcheon-dong 5-644 area.
