Incheon City announced on the 15th that it has newly assigned 36 public health doctors to medically underserved areas such as rural and fishing villages.
Among them, 17 are medical doctors, 10 are dentists, and 9 are Korean medicine doctors. They will serve as health guardians in medically underserved areas for three years, taking charge of local health care. A total of 8, including 2 specialists, were assigned to Baengnyeong Hospital, while 11 and 17 were assigned to Ganghwa County and Ongjin County, respectively.
With this, the total number of public health doctors in the Incheon area increased to 77, including the existing 41. However, this is 4 fewer than the previous year, and the city plans to fill the gap caused by the shortage of health doctors through personnel adjustments and rotating medical services.
The city plans to assign 2 medical doctors to Bukdo Health Center in Ongjin County, which previously had only 1 medical doctor among the existing land-connected health centers, to prepare for nighttime and emergency situations.
Additionally, for the health centers in the land-connected island areas of Ganghwa County where no public health doctors have been assigned, the city intends to minimize inconvenience to residents in accessing health care services through rotating visits from nearby health centers.
