The incident took place around 6:30 a.m. on the 13th near the Hongdae club street area in Mapo-gu, Seoul. CCTV footage from the scene shows an elderly woman, Ms. A in her 80s, walking with a cane. Opposite her, a group of 11 people including foreigners were walking together, and a man, Mr. B, kicked some trash on the ground. At that moment, a shoe flew along with the trash and struck Ms. A’s face.

Mr. B and his group calmly left the scene after only picking up the shoe that had fallen onto the road, despite seeing Ms. A clutching her face in pain. Ms. A later walked home alone while bleeding, and it was reported that the impact was so severe that her glasses were broken. She underwent suturing surgery for a torn area on the bridge of her nose and had severe bruising around her eyes.

Ms. A’s son, who reported the incident to the police, told Channel A, "A group of people were coming down, so my mother tried to avoid them," and added, "Because there were many people, she tried to get out of the way, but suddenly something flew and hit her face." He also said, "Regardless of them being foreigners, if an elderly person was hurt like that, they should have apologized or taken some action, but it doesn’t seem like it was just a joke," and expressed, "My mother is currently very anxious, and as her child, I am extremely angry."

The police, having received the report, are tracking Mr. B and the group of perpetrators based on the CCTV footage. The police stated, "We plan to determine through investigation whether their actions were intentional."
