"Full Solidarity and Support Expressed for Israel"
The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) strongly condemned Iran for directly attacking Israeli territory and made it clear that this conflict must not escalate further in the Middle East.
On the 14th (local time), after holding a virtual summit, the G7 leaders issued a joint statement saying, "We unequivocally condemn Iran's direct and unprecedented attack on Israel in the strongest terms."
The G7 stated, "Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles toward Israel," and "Israel, with the help of its partners, successfully defended against these attacks."
They also clearly expressed their support for Israel. The G7 emphasized, "We express our full solidarity and support for Israel and the Israeli people," and "We reaffirm our commitment to Israel's security."
They particularly stressed that the current conflict between Israel and Iran must not escalate tensions in the Middle East.
The G7 said, "Iran's actions have further destabilized the region and risk triggering an uncontrollable regional escalation," adding, "We will continue efforts to stabilize the situation and avoid heightened tensions." They also urged "Iran and its proxies to cease further attacks," emphasizing, "We are prepared to take additional measures in response to any moves that cause instability."
Furthermore, they expressed their intention to strengthen cooperation to end the Gaza Strip crisis caused by the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian armed group Hamas.
The G7 stated, "We will continue efforts for an immediate and sustained ceasefire and the release of hostages held by Hamas," and "We will also expand humanitarian aid to Palestinians in need."
On the same day, the White House posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), "President Joe Biden held a virtual meeting with G7 leaders," adding, "The leaders condemned Iran's attacks on Israel and reaffirmed the G7's commitment to Israel's security."
Charles Michel, President of the European Council, also wrote on X, "We unanimously condemn Iran's unprecedented attack on Israel," and "All parties must exercise restraint." He added, "We will continue all efforts to de-escalate the conflict," and "An immediate ceasefire to end the Gaza crisis as soon as possible will bring change."
