The Seodaemun-gu Office Women's Basketball Team, led by Coach Park Chan-sook, achieved a thrilling 1-point comeback victory over Gimcheon City Hall with a score of 47 to 46 in the final day match of the '2024 National Business Basketball Federation Tournament' held on the afternoon of the 14th at Gimcheon Indoor Gymnasium in Gimcheon-si, Gyeongbuk. With this win, they secured the championship with a perfect 3-0 record in the tournament.


The Seodaemun-gu Office Women's Basketball Team defeated last year's National Sports Festival champion Daegu City Hall 73 to 56 on the 12th, and on the 13th, they beat Sacheon City Hall, who was aiming for a fourth consecutive title in this tournament, with a score of 67 to 38. Thus, the Seodaemun-gu Office Women's Basketball Team achieved the remarkable feat of winning a national tournament just over a year after its founding on March 29 last year. Additionally, Coach Park Chan-sook received the Best Coach Award, and player Yoon Na-ri was honored with the Most Valuable Player Award, marking a double celebration in this tournament.


Four teams?Seodaemun-gu Office, Daegu City Hall, Sacheon City Hall, and Gimcheon City Hall?participated in this tournament, competing in a round-robin format. In the final match against the home team Gimcheon City Hall on the 14th, the Seodaemun-gu Office Women's Basketball Team started the 1st quarter tied at 8-8, trailed 19-22 by the 2nd quarter, and 32-40 by the 3rd quarter, but showed strong determination in the 4th quarter to secure a comeback victory with a final score of 47 to 46. On that day, team captain forward Yoon Na-ri scored 17 points, and center Kim Hae-ji scored 10 points, both achieving double-digit points for Seodaemun-gu Office.


Legendary Korean women's basketball coach Park Chan-sook, who expressed at the team's founding ceremony last year, "I will take responsibility as an eternal basketball person to nurture the best basketball team so that players who earnestly want to play basketball can realize their dreams," said, "I will not be satisfied with this championship and will work even harder to show progress in every tournament."

The enthusiastic cheers from local residents at every game have energized the players, and on this day, the shouts of support from the spectators cheering for the Seodaemun-gu Office Women's Basketball Team further heated up the gymnasium.


Seodaemun-gu Mayor Lee Sung-heon, who was moved to tears at the game, said, "The passion of the coach and players for basketball has borne fruit in the form of their first championship," and added, "I extend my congratulations and gratitude to the basketball team that has elevated the honor of Seodaemun-gu and its residents and has given hope that 'it can be done'." He also mentioned, "I hope the Seodaemun-gu Office Women's Basketball Team can contribute to restoring the past glory of Korean women's basketball."


The Seodaemun-gu Office Women's Basketball Team will consecutively participate in the 79th National Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships in July and the 105th National Sports Festival in October this year.
