A suspect who extorted 500 million won in cash using cryptocurrency trading as bait was arrested in the heart of Gangnam, Seoul.

The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced on the 12th at around 2 p.m. that suspect A was apprehended in Cheonho-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, and they are considering applying charges of attempted robbery and murder. A woman in her early 30s and a man in his mid-40s who helped A escape were also arrested.

A is accused of luring the victim near Samseong Station in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at 10:44 a.m. the previous day by offering to sell coins below market price, then swinging a blunt weapon and stealing cash before fleeing.

The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition without life-threatening injuries.

Earlier, on the 1st, three men in their 30s who extorted 550 million won in cash under the pretense of cryptocurrency trading in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, were also arrested.
