Gaon Broadband Secures Consecutive Contracts in Malaysian Market... "Strengthening Position in Emerging Telecommunications Equipment Market"

Gaon Broadband is strengthening its presence in the Southeast Asian region by consecutively signing network equipment supply contracts with major telecommunications operators in Malaysia.

Gaon Group announced on the 12th that its subsidiary, the network solutions specialist Gaon Broadband, has signed a contract to supply 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) equipment to Malaysian telecom operator U Mobile.

5G FWA is network equipment that provides ultra-high-speed communication services wirelessly without a wired internet connection. Since it does not require costly optical cable installation work, its adoption is increasing mainly in countries with large territories or overseas regions where the telecommunications infrastructure is not highly developed.

Global market research firm MarketsandMarkets forecasted that the global 5G FWA market size will grow at an average annual rate of 39%, from $29.4 billion (approximately 40 trillion 928 billion KRW) in 2023 to $153 billion (approximately 208 trillion 646.1 billion KRW) in 2028.

In addition, Gaon Broadband signed a contract in February with another major Malaysian telecom operator, MAXIS, to supply Wi-Fi 6E wireless routers (AP). This product was the first Wi-Fi 6E product launched in Malaysia. A company representative explained that they succeeded in securing the contract by adopting a premium strategy with high-quality, high-end design, outperforming low-cost Chinese products.

A company representative said, “The Southeast Asian market has not yet commercialized the latest communication technologies including 5G, so it has great growth potential in the future, making it a strategic stronghold that will inject new vitality into our sales activities. Having newly established an R&D center in Vietnam last year and secured a strategic base in the Asia-Pacific market including Southeast Asia, we will continue to expand our presence.”
