Sharpened Anti-Yoon Stance... "Yoon Hurts Conservative Supporters"

After four attempts, Lee Jun-seok, the elected representative of the Reform New Party from Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, who succeeded in entering the National Assembly in the 22nd general election, said on the 11th, “President Yoon Seok-yeol is someone who sent two presidents to prison, and since he does not have a conservative base, he is continuously trapped in a complex.”

In an interview with SBS Radio’s ‘Kim Tae-hyun’s Political Show’ on the same day, Lee said, “President Yoon is not recognized by anyone as a conservative, so he only claims it verbally, and within this structural problem that he cannot escape from, the conservative party continues to suffer from a poverty of philosophy.” He added, “Among his supporters, there are blindly devoted followers, so he has no choice but to explain things in simple language. If someone says ‘I oppose the president who is like the sky,’ it is labeled as ‘internal criticism.’” He criticized, “From suddenly pushing for an increase in medical school admissions to inflation control measures, where can you see policies close to conservative philosophy?”

When asked about his intention to run in the next presidential election, Lee retorted, “How many years are left until the next presidential election?” When the interviewer replied, “Three years,” he countered, “Are you sure?”

On the same day, on the radio program ‘Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show,’ he said, “President Yoon is a president who is passing his second year in office, but he still has not done the basics of governance and politics,” and added, “That was judged in the recent general election, and it does not seem like things will change even after the election.”

He also pointed out, “Looking at how after becoming president, he has pushed out all people including Representative Yoo Seung-min, Ahn Cheol-soo, Na Kyung-won, and Representative Kim Ki-hyun, one can imagine how many conservative supporters’ hearts and pride were hurt.” He continued, “It is obvious that hospital operations will fall into great confusion due to the medical school admission increase issue, but it is even more incomprehensible that a health-related issue was easily touched upon right before the general election,” and criticized, “Rather, many citizens are now worried that he might act even more autocratically.”

In an interview on MBC Radio’s ‘Kim Jong-bae’s Focus,’ he expressed his gratitude by saying, “I think the voters of Dongtan made a very big investment, and above all, it was one of the youngest and most politically aware constituencies,” adding, “The speed at which the political awareness responded to policies and pledges was astonishing even to me.” Regarding the nature of the Reform New Party, he said, “It is conservative but part of the opposition,” and “The Reform New Party will continue with our politics.” He drew a line regarding the possibility of merging with the People Power Party.

Meanwhile, Lee entered politics in 2011 as a ‘Park Geun-hye kid.’ He ran for the Seoul Nowon-byeong constituency in the 20th general election in 2016, the 2018 by-election, and the 21st general election in 2020 but was consecutively defeated. He was elected as a member of the National Assembly for the first time in 13 years since entering politics in this general election.
