On the 11th, JTBC's 'Case Manager' reported that Ms. A, a woman in her 30s married for five years with a 3-year-old son, is facing such a dilemma. Ms. A began by saying, "My father-in-law used to be my strongest supporter," adding, "Even when my husband and I fought, he would take my side instead of his son's. Not only that, he always called me a 'pretty daughter-in-law' and treated me very affectionately."
Ms. A explained, "Earlier this year, while having a meal at my in-laws' house, my husband and mother-in-law left to go to a nearby convenience store. My father-in-law, who was quite drunk, came back from the bathroom with his pants zipper undone," continuing, "I told him, 'Father, your zipper is open,' and he replied, 'So what? You should close it for me.'
At the time, Ms. A thought her father-in-law was joking and laughed it off to ease the situation, but she claimed the sexual harassment continued. She said, "After returning home, my father-in-law called me and asked about my intimate life with my husband," adding, "I had casually mentioned our marital relations to my mother-in-law, but I never imagined my father-in-law would overhear. My husband was beside me then, and he quickly ended the call, saying, 'Father seems very drunk.'
Ms. A recalled, "One day, we had a family dinner to celebrate something good, and my father-in-law got drunk again. He whispered, 'I don't see you as a daughter-in-law,' and smiled slyly," adding, "Feeling embarrassed, I excused myself to the bathroom, but he followed me and said, 'Since it's a public restroom, let's go together.'” Ms. A tried to calm him down by saying, "Don't say such nonsense," but her father-in-law suddenly lamented, "I wish I could have dated you once; it's such a pity."
Exhausted by her father-in-law's ongoing harassment, Ms. A confided in her husband, who angrily confronted his father. However, her father-in-law responded defiantly, saying, "What kind of father-in-law says such things to his daughter-in-law?" Disappointed by this attitude, Ms. A left home for two days before returning. Upon hearing that she had left, her father-in-law said, "I don't remember, but if you say so, I'm sorry," yet scolded her, "How can a mother leave home leaving her child behind?" The mother-in-law also scolded Ms. A, saying, "Why are you making such a big deal over your father-in-law's drunken antics?"
