In the 22nd National Assembly general election (April 10 general election), there were quite a few fiercely close races until the final stages of vote counting. Some places showed a difference of less than 1 percentage point, and there were constituencies where the outcome was decided by a margin of 497 votes.


According to the National Election Commission on the 11th, among the constituencies where vote counting was completed as of 7 a.m., the closest gap between the winning candidate and the runner-up was in Changwon Jinhae, Gyeongnam, where the result was decided by 497 votes.


Lee Jong-wook of the People Power Party narrowly defeated Hwang Ki-cheol of the Democratic Party, securing 51,100 votes out of a total of 102,928 votes cast, compared to Hwang’s 50,603 votes.

In Dong-gu, Ulsan, Kim Tae-seon of the Democratic Party (45.88%) won a fierce battle against the incumbent Kwon Myung-ho of the People Power Party (45.20%). The difference in vote percentage was 0.68 percentage points, which translates to a margin of 568 votes.


In Yongin-byeong, Gyeonggi Province, Bu Seung-chan of the Democratic Party won with 50.26%, defeating Ko Seok of the People Power Party who received 49.73%, by a margin of 0.53 percentage points (851 votes), thus entering the National Assembly.


Choo Mi-ae also secured victory in Hanam-gap, Gyeonggi Province, where she competed against Lee Yong, a pro-Yoon candidate from the People Power Party (49.41%), by obtaining 50.58%, winning by 1.17 percentage points (1,199 votes).


In Suwon Jeong, Gyeonggi Province, Kim Jun-hyuk of the Democratic Party received 50.86%, while candidate Lee received 49.13%, with Kim winning by 1.73 percentage points (2,377 votes).


Constituencies where the race was decided within a 3 percentage point difference include Pocheon-Gapyeong in Gyeonggi, Chungju in Chungbuk, Gongju-Buyeo-Cheongyang in Chungnam, and Gapyeong in Gyeonggi.


In Pocheon-Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, Kim Yong-tae of the People Power Party won with 50.47%, defeating Park Yoon-guk of the Democratic Party who received 48.36%, by 2.11 percentage points. In Chungju, Chungbuk, Lee Jong-bae of the People Power Party won with 51.11%, beating Kim Kyung-wook of the Democratic Party who received 48.88%, by 2.23 percentage points.


In Gongju-Buyeo-Cheongyang, Chungnam, Jeong Jin-seok of the People Power Party received 48.42%, losing to Park Soo-hyun of the Democratic Party who won with 50.66%, failing in his bid for a sixth term by 2.24 percentage points.


Song Seok-jun of the People Power Party won in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, defeating Democratic Party candidate Eom Tae-jun by 2.67 percentage points, successfully securing a third term.
