Ulsan City will begin additional COVID-19 vaccinations for 'high-risk' citizens.
On the 11th, Ulsan City announced that starting from the 15th, additional COVID-19 vaccinations will be administered to immunocompromised individuals aged 5 and older and citizens aged 65 and older who have received the 2023-2024 seasonal vaccine.
This additional vaccination is designed to prevent severe illness and death from COVID-19 by considering the short duration of immunity in high-risk groups such as immunocompromised individuals and the effectiveness of vaccines against new variants.
The vaccine used for the vaccination is the XBB.1.5 monovalent vaccine, which is the same as last season and effective against recently circulating new variants.
Citizens wishing to receive the vaccination can visit the nearest COVID-19 vaccination designated medical institution without prior reservation and receive the vaccine free of charge on the same day. Designated medical institutions can be checked on the COVID-19 vaccination website.
In addition to those eligible for this additional vaccination, unvaccinated individuals for the 2023-2024 season can also receive the vaccine, and high-risk individuals who have recently been vaccinated can receive the additional dose after at least 3 months (90 days).
An official from Ulsan City stated, “COVID-19 positive cases continue to occur, and vaccine effectiveness decreases over time even in vaccinated individuals. Therefore, to prevent severe illness and death among high-risk groups, we encourage active additional vaccinations for those aged 65 and older and immunocompromised individuals aged 5 and above.”
