In Gangdong-gap, where a fierce battle continued until the final stages of the vote count in the 22nd National Assembly general election (April 10 general election), Jin Sun-mi, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate, was elected, achieving her fourth term.
According to the Central Election Commission's vote count status on the 11th, as of 6:29 a.m. (counting rate 99.97%), Candidate Jin secured 50.13%, narrowly defeating Jeon Ju-hye of the People Power Party, who had 47.88%, making her victory certain.
Both Candidate Jin and Candidate Jeon attracted attention as female politicians born in the 1960s and former legal professionals.
Initially, terrestrial broadcast exit polls showed Candidate Jin winning by more than 7 percentage points over Candidate Jeon, suggesting a landslide victory, but a fierce close contest continued until the end. Until 3 a.m. that day, Candidate Jeon was even seen leading Candidate Jin.
Candidate Jin entered the National Assembly in 2012 as a proportional representative of the Democratic United Party and served as the second Minister of Gender Equality and Family under the Moon Jae-in administration in 2018.
