After serving four times as spokesperson for candidate Lee Jae-myung in the 20th presidential election and the Democratic Party leadership election, he was appointed as a political special advisor to the party leader in August last year and has been active since.
Jung said, “Today’s victory is not just mine but the victory of the people demanding fundamental change in the Republic of Korea,” adding, “It is the solemn mandate of the residents of Nam-gu to judge the incompetent Yoon Seok-yeol administration, and the result of the precious sincerity of all those who wish for the restoration of democracy and livelihoods, as well as the regional development of Nam-gu and Gwangju.”
He continued, “I will focus my legislative activities on correcting the misgovernance of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, which accelerated high inflation and economic decline, to revive the economy of ordinary people and quickly restore livelihoods,” and expressed his ambition by saying, “I will stand at the forefront to dismantle the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, which is the true reform and the task of our time, and to reclaim the government.”
He also promised, “We must revitalize the local economy and create quality youth jobs by attracting companies to the two industrial complexes in Daechon,” and added, “I will also address issues such as senior welfare, education, and transportation, and do my best to solve local issues and revive livelihoods by reflecting the various valuable opinions citizens shared during the election campaign.”
Furthermore, he stated, “I will lead the party’s development so that the Democratic Party can become a ruling party presenting alternatives and a strong opposition party,” emphasizing, “I will prove that the choice of Gwangju and Nam-gu, which desire change and reform, is correct by reopening the heyday of Honam politics initiated by President Kim Dae-jung.”
