Voter Turnout at 1 PM Reaches 53.4%... Surpasses Last General Election When Early Voting Included

3.7%P Higher Than Same Time in Last General Election
Highest in Jeonnam, Lowest in Daegu... Honam All in Top Ranks

The voter turnout for the 22nd general election reached 53.4% as of 1 p.m. on the 10th. Until the morning, the figure only reflected in-person voting. From 1 p.m., the turnout rate includes early voting and overseas voting combined.

According to the National Election Commission, as of 1 p.m., out of a total of 44,280,011 eligible voters, 23,665,629 had cast their ballots. Among the nationwide cities and provinces, the highest turnout was recorded in Jeonnam (59.6%). Sejong (57.3%), Jeonbuk (57.1%), Gwangju (56.7%), Gangwon (55.5%), Gyeongnam (54.4%), and Seoul (54.1%) all exceeded the average.


On the other hand, Daegu (49.90%) recorded the lowest turnout. Jeju (50.0%), Incheon (51.6%), Gyeonggi (52.3%), Ulsan (52.4%), Busan (52.8%), Chungnam (53.2%), Chungbuk (53.2%), Daejeon (53.3%), and Gyeongbuk (53.4%) were below the average.


Compared to the 21st general election held in 2020, the turnout at the same time was 3.7 percentage points higher. The difference in turnout at the same time during the last parliamentary election was 1.1 percentage points at 9 a.m., which was lower than the 21st general election. At 10 a.m., it was 1 percentage point; at 11 a.m., 0.8 percentage points; and at noon, 0.7 percentage points, gradually narrowing the gap. When early voting was added at 1 p.m., the turnout rate surpassed that of the 21st general election. Early voting for this election was the highest ever at 31.28%.


The final turnout for the 21st general election was 66.2%. Attention is focused on whether this election can exceed that and reach around 70%.


Voting is open until 6 p.m. Voters can cast their ballots at the polling station in their registered residential district by presenting an ID such as a resident registration card or passport. Identity verification is also possible using Samsung Wallet or PASS mobile ID, Naver certificate, and KakaoTalk Wallet. The National Election Commission announces the turnout rate by time based on voting status collected from election commissions across cities, counties, and districts nationwide.
