7 Middle School Teams Participate Over 3 Days at Jeonnam Hampyeong Baseball Stadium
The baseball team of Hwasun Middle School in Jeonnam (Principal Seo Yang-sim), coached by Lee Ki-ju, won the championship in the middle school division of the 15th Jeollanam-do Baseball Softball Association President's Cup Student Baseball Tournament.
According to Hwasun Middle School on the 10th, the middle school division, held over three days from the 6th to the 8th at the Hampyeong Baseball Stadium in Jeonnam, featured seven teams: Hwasun Middle School, Seji Middle School, Yeosu Middle School, Suncheon Isu Middle School, Yeongsan Middle School, Sehan SC, and Gwangyang SC.

Hwasun Middle School, which advanced to the tournament with a first-round bye, won their first game against Suncheon Isu Middle School in a 10-inning extra innings shootout, coming from behind to win 4-3. The next day, they secured the championship by defeating Naju Yeongsan Middle School 3-0 in the final.
Jung Seung-won (3rd year) of Hwasun Middle School was selected as the Most Valuable Player, Choi Jae-won (3rd year) received the Best Pitcher Award, Shim Sung-min (3rd year) won the Rookie Award, and coach Lee Ki-ju was honored with the Best Coach Award.
Captain Kim Dong-hyun (3rd year) said, "I give glory to Coach Lee Ki-ju, and coaches Jeong Tae-hoon, Kim Seon-hyun, and Jeon Se-min who have guided us so far, and I thank my parents who have always cared for me with love. I want to share the joy of winning with my teammates and train even harder after entering high school to definitely become a good professional baseball player."
The Hwasun Middle School baseball team was founded in March 1986 and has produced professional players such as Kia's Kim Seon-bin, Doosan's Hong Geon-hee and Lee Hyung-beom, Samsung's Lee Seung-hyun, NC's Jung Jin-ki, and Hanwha's Kim In-hwan.
In particular, except for the period when tournaments were not held due to COVID-19, the team has achieved outstanding results including 3rd place in the 53rd President's Cup National Middle School Baseball Tournament, the first bronze medal in Jeonnam at the 46th National Youth Sports Festival, championships in the 2021 Jeonnam Association President's Cup and Governor's Cup Baseball Tournaments, and the 2019 13th KIA Tigers Honam Region Middle School Baseball Tournament championship.
