Han Dong-hoon Shows Broad Activity Visiting 141 Places in 13 Days
'Final Campaign Rally' at Cheonggye Plaza... Police Estimate 3,000 Gathered
"I Will Only Follow Public Sentiment" "I Will Take Responsibility" Final Appeal
The election campaigns of the People Power Party and Emergency Response Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon have both concluded. Chairman Han, who canceled his final campaign schedule planned until midnight due to health reasons, can now only wait for the election results.
On the 9th, one day before the 22nd general election, Chairman Han visited a total of 15 constituencies in Seoul, continuing his 'intensive campaign' until the last day. From the 28th of last month until that day, he visited a total of 141 constituencies (including overlaps) over 13 days to support People Power Party candidates.
At around 8:30 p.m. that day, at the 'Final All-Out Campaign' held at Cheonggye Square in Jongno-gu, Seoul, Chairman Han said, "Whether you voted for the People Power Party or the Democratic Party of Korea, we will make a country where everyone prospers together." He added, "Over the past 100 days, whenever you expressed discomfort or pointed out mistakes to the government and ruling party, we immediately changed and responded." He continued, "We will do even more going forward. We will only look to and follow the public sentiment," emphasizing, "If you give us strength, we will fulfill promises beyond expectations and take responsibility." He further said, "Let's show our children not backward people and backward politics, but wonderful people and wonderful politics," and "Let's pass on an advanced Korea that follows a strong-strong-weak-weak pattern, not a backward country with a strong-weak-weak-strong pattern." It is reported that about 3,000 supporters and voters gathered at Cheonggye Square, according to police estimates.
During his visits to 15 campaign sites that day, Chairman Han delivered a consistent message. He said, "Just as Admiral Yi Sun-sin saved the country with 12 ships, we have 12 hours left to save our country," and referred to Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung's tears in front of the Seocho-dong courthouse as "performative tears, pathetic tears." Additionally, Chairman Han consistently mentioned the People Power Party's efforts to revive the economy, including the abolition of the financial investment tax, temporary reduction of the value-added tax (VAT) rate, and expansion of simplified VAT taxpayers. For political reform, he emphasized promises to abolish parliamentary privileges and fully relocate the National Assembly to Sejong.
Although Chairman Han announced additional schedules planned until midnight that evening, showing his determination to win the election, he canceled all remaining schedules due to health reasons after the final campaign. After the final campaign, street greetings in Daehak-ro, Euljiro, and Hongdae, as well as an official statement marking the end of the 22nd general election campaign, were scheduled. A People Power Party official explained, "It seems that Chairman Han experienced physical issues as his tension eased while moving by vehicle after the final campaign."
The People Power Party, which appealed to voters to at least maintain the "constitutional amendment blocking line" (100 seats) amid the opposition surge from the Democratic Party and the Innovation Party, plans to open a vote counting situation room in the auditorium on the basement first floor of the National Assembly Library on the 10th to monitor the results.
