Ewha Womans University Political Science Alumni Association: "Claims of Aunt Go Eun-kwangsoon Providing Sexual Services to US Military Are False"

"Studying in '48? ... 50 Years Since the Establishment of the Department of Political Science"

The Ewha Womans University Department of Political Science and Diplomacy Alumni Association has refuted as "false" the testimony of Ko Eun-kwang-soon, who claimed that the statement by Kim Jun-hyuk, the Democratic Party candidate for Suwon-jeong, Gyeonggi, about "Ewha students providing sexual favors to U.S. military personnel" was "a matter concerning my aunt."

Members of the Ewha Political Science and Diplomacy Alumni Association held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Hall on the 9th, stating, "Ko Eun, who claimed it was 'her aunt's matter,' is telling a lie completely different from the facts," and expressed anger at the "absurd and inflammatory remarks that she provided sexual favors while attending Ewha's Political Science and Diplomacy Department at the age of 13."

The previous day, Ko Eun, who identified herself as a 1973 sociology major at Ewha, claimed at a press conference that her aunt, Eun Ye-ok, born in 1935 and who attended Ewha's Political Science and Diplomacy Department, was a victim of sexual favors to U.S. military personnel led by Kim Hwal-ran, then president of Ewha.

Ko said, "I saw a photo of my aunt sitting on the lawn with U.S. military personnel. It looked like female college students were paired with U.S. soldiers and having group meetings. I only recently learned that around 1948, she was caught by Kim Hwal-ran (then president of Ewha) at the Nakrang Club."

In response, the Political Science and Diplomacy Alumni Association pointed out factual inconsistencies, saying, "Ko claims that her aunt was a student or graduate of the Political Science and Diplomacy Department in 1948, but the department was established in 1950 and admitted its first students then." They added, "A student named Eun Ye-ok enrolled in 1956 and graduated in 1961. The claim that she was subjected to sexual favors at the Nakrang Club around 1948 is factually impossible. The U.S. military government period ended in 1953."

They expressed discomfort and insult at the mention of Ewha's Political Science and Diplomacy Department in such an extreme storytelling, urging Ko Eun to apologize and the Democratic Party to withdraw Kim's candidacy.

Meanwhile, candidate Kim previously sparked controversy with remarks about "Ewha female students providing sexual favors to U.S. military officers." In 2022, on a YouTube channel, Kim claimed, "Kim Hwal-ran (the first president of Ewha) played a major role in sending comfort women to the military," and "During the U.S. military government period, Ewha students were made to provide sexual favors to U.S. military officers."
