Last year, a man in his 40s who caused five casualties by crashing into an ambulance while speeding in Cheonan, Chungnam, was sentenced to five years in prison.

On the 9th, Judge Jeong Eun-young of the Criminal Division 1 at the Cheonan Branch of the Daejeon District Court sentenced A (41), who was arrested and indicted on charges including violation of the Special Act on the Treatment of Traffic Accidents (causing death), to five years in prison.

On August 21 last year, at 10:52 p.m., A was driving at 134 km/h at an intersection in Buldang-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungnam, when he crashed into an ambulance transporting a patient in his 70s, B.

As a result of the accident, B’s wife, who was also in the ambulance, died, and B and the paramedics were injured.

It was revealed that A was not enrolled in mandatory insurance, so compensation for the victims was not provided.

Judge Jeong stated, "He drove a car without even mandatory insurance and caused an accident while speeding at more than twice the speed limit. The tragic outcome of one death and four injuries makes his guilt very serious, and since the victims have not been compensated, severe punishment is inevitable."
