Yeosu City Supports Breakfast and Ferry Fees for Island High School Dormitory Students

Improving Educational Welfare for High School Students in Educationally Disadvantaged Island Areas

Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it will provide breakfast expenses and ferry fares to boarding students of high schools in island areas as part of the educational expense subsidy project.

This is to improve the educational welfare of high school students in island areas with vulnerable educational environments and to support demand-oriented customized educational expenses.

For ferry fares, the current fare of 1,000 KRW for island residents is applied, and the difference is supported within the educational expenses to alleviate the economic burden on parents and students.

In addition, breakfast expenses are provided to boarding students of Yeonam High School, the only island high school in the jurisdiction, in cooperation with the Jeollanam-do Office of Education to improve physical strength during growth periods.

Kim Jong-won, Director of Lifelong Education Division, said, “With this support, we hope to realize universal educational welfare through the formation of healthy lifestyle habits and improvement of educational conditions for high school students in island areas,” and added, “We will promote educational expense subsidy projects tailored to the characteristics of each school level to create ‘Yeosu, a Happy Future Education City’ that satisfies students, teachers, and parents alike.”

Meanwhile, Yeosu City is currently implementing 46 projects in six areas with a total educational budget of 10 billion KRW this year, including ▲support for high schools ▲local talent development ▲strengthening global competencies ▲improving educational welfare ▲cultivating arts, character, and aptitude ▲and improving school environments.
