People Power Party Files Election Law Violation Complaint Against Democratic Party Candidate Bok Gi-wang
Until the last day of official election campaigning for the 22nd general election, the election battle in the Asan Gap district of Chungnam has become chaotic as the two candidates engage in mutual accusations.
Until the last day of the official election campaign for the 22nd general election, the election battle in the Asan Gap constituency of Chungnam continues with mutual accusations between the two candidates.
The Chungnam Provincial Party of the Democratic Party of Korea announced on the 9th that it had filed a complaint with the Asan Police Station against Kim Young-seok, the People Power Party candidate for Asan Gap, and the Chungnam Provincial Party of the People Power Party for violating the Public Official Election Act and spreading false information.
This follows the Chungnam Election Commission's complaint on the 15th against a local journalist for election campaigning in favor of a specific preliminary candidate, and now the Democratic Party has filed a complaint against candidate Kim Young-seok. The journalist is accused of distributing and publishing promotional content about candidate Kim Young-seok as if it were an advertisement.
Earlier, on the 8th, the Chungnam Provincial Party of the People Power Party filed a complaint with the Asan Police Station against Bok Ki-wang, the Democratic Party candidate for Asan Gap, for violating the Public Official Election Act. This was due to Bok's remarks supporting Jo Guk, the leader of the Jo Guk Innovation Party, at Onyang Oncheon Station square in Asan on the 29th of last month.
Subsequently, candidate Kim Young-seok's side distributed numerous text messages containing links to articles reporting that candidate Bok had been accused of violating the Public Official Election Act.
A representative of the Chungnam Provincial Party of the People Power Party stated, "Candidate Bok campaigned for support by placing himself between promotional materials of leader Jo Guk and the Jo Guk Innovation Party during the election campaign," adding, "This is an act that violates the Public Official Election Act and should be punished according to relevant laws."
A representative of the Chungnam Provincial Party of the Democratic Party criticized, "Candidate Kim's side distributed article links via text messages as if they had been waiting for this," and added, "This is a clearly intentional and planned act to damage the opposing candidate and distort voter sentiment to cause candidate Bok's defeat as the election becomes unfavorable."
