Meal Lasts About 10 Minutes

Han Dong-hoon, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, had dinner with Won Hee-ryong, the candidate for Incheon Gyeyang, at a restaurant where Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was involved in the so-called 'beef controversy.' Around 6:47 p.m. on the 8th, Chairman Han visited a meat specialty restaurant located in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, together with candidate Won and Lee Cheon-soo, former national soccer player and chairman of Won's support committee.

Chairman Han and candidate Won ordered kimchi jjim instead of beef or samgyeopsal at the restaurant that day. The meal lasted about 10 minutes. Chairman Han left soon without eating due to scheduling issues.

Earlier, during a campaign rally supporting Gwangju and Icheon in Gyeonggi Province, Chairman Han mocked Lee by saying, "We will not pretend to have eaten beef or samgyeopsal. We will not pretend to be prosecutors. We will not pretend to be emergency patients to ride a helicopter." After the meal, candidate Won explained, "About a month ago, In Yohan, chairman of the People’s Future campaign committee, also came here for a meal. This is a place where we host meaningful and important figures from the central party or outside Gyeyang," adding, "I don’t know if the other person (Lee Jae-myung) came knowing that." He continued, "If you look at the records, this restaurant has deep roots in Gyeyang, and it holds a significant legacy of leading honest politics here and driving innovation in the People Power Party. It is also our regular spot."

Recently, online criticism arose claiming that Lee had eaten beef at this place but posted on his social networking service (SNS) as if he had eaten samgyeopsal, accusing him of "pretending to be a commoner." The criticism was based on the fact that the raw meat’s red color looked like beef and that Lee himself mentioned "Shall I eat some beef?" during a live video.
