Jirisan Namak Festival, from the 18th to the 20th
Citizens' Day event held at the public sports stadium area
Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that from the 18th to the 20th, it will hold the 「80th Jirisan Namak Festival and the 43rd Residents' Day Event」 under the theme "A Journey into a Thousand Years of History" at Namaksa, Hwaeomsa Facility District, and the public sports stadium area.
This year, a variety of events including the Namak Ritual, street parade, Residents' Day events, as well as performances, exhibitions, experiences, and competitions will be held across four sections with 31 different programs.
On Thursday the 18th, the Namak Calligraphy Contest will begin, followed by a residents' singing contest at 7 PM on the outdoor stage of Seosicheon Sports Park. Twelve finalists selected through preliminary rounds will compete passionately.
Additionally, at the 33rd National Jeongga Sijo Singing Contest, master sijo singers from across the country will showcase their honed skills to the fullest.
On Friday the 19th at 10 AM, the Namak Ritual praying for national peace and prosperity throughout a thousand years of history will be held at Namaksa, followed by a tribute tea ceremony at Jangjukjeon, the birthplace of green tea.
At the Hwaeomsa Facility District, various events will take place including cultural and artistic performances, a street (elementary school competition) Ssireum wrestling tournament to find hidden champions, township (elementary school competition) Yutnori games, and township Nongak (traditional farmers' music) competitions. Side events such as Korean tea tasting, traditional rice cake making, souvenir crafting experiences, hanji paper craft exhibitions, and the Korea Photographers Association exhibition will also be held.
At the Seomjin Art Hall, starting from 4 PM, there will be a performance by the Baekdu-Halla Art Troupe, offering a chance to experience North Korea’s unique culture and arts. The Cultural and Arts Center exhibition hall will display exquisite works by members of the Korea Fine Arts Association Gurye branch.
On Saturday the 20th, a street parade will proceed from the county office square to Gurye Public Sports Stadium, followed by an opening ceremony by township at the stadium, and various sports competitions including soccer, gateball, park golf, and a demonstration match of Hangung (traditional Korean archery).
Lee Jong-seok, Chairman of the Jirisan Namak Festival and Residents' Day Event Promotion Committee, stated, "This year, we have prepared the event so that more residents can participate and spend time communicating and harmonizing."
County Governor Kim Soon-ho said, "Since the Jirisan Namak Festival and Residents' Day are meaningful festivals with a long history, we will do our best to ensure the event is substantial and safely conducted."
