Korean Movie Hidden April, Ma Dong-seok's 'Crime City 4' IMAX Release

Major New Releases Avoid Ma Dong-seok, Move to June

Korean Movie Hidden April, Ma Dong-seok's 'Crime City 4' IMAX Release

Actor Ma Dong-seok's starring film 'Crime City 4' will be released on April 24 in special screening formats IMAX and 4DX, AB Entertainment announced on the 9th.

'Crime City 4' is a film depicting the crime eradication operation led by the monster detective 'Ma Seok-do' (Ma Dong-seok) against the villain 'Baek Chang-gi' (Kim Mu-yeol), a former special forces mercenary running a large-scale online illegal gambling organization, along with 'Jang Yi-soo' (Park Ji-hwan), who returns once again, and the Gwangsu-dae Cyber Team. Following the previous installments, Ma Dong-seok takes center stage delivering refreshing boxing action.

The previous series entries, 'Crime City 2' (2022) attracted 12.69 million viewers, and 'Crime City 3' (2023) drew 10.68 million viewers, and now the fourth installment is set to open on the 24th. Except for documentaries or low-budget films, there are virtually no Korean films releasing in April. This reflects a strategic calculation to avoid competing with the 'Crime City' sequels, which have twice surpassed 10 million viewers. Major upcoming films preparing for release are considering a June opening while gauging the market atmosphere. Hollywood new releases will meet audiences this month, with 'Kung Fu Panda 4' opening on the 10th and 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' on the 17th.
