Kyobo Life Insurance In-house Startup 'Haenda Company' Starts Anew as First Spin-off Entrepreneurship

Kyobo Life Insurance announced on the 9th that 'Haenda Company,' which started as an in-house venture team, is making a fresh start as the first spin-off and startup company.

Haenda Company is an in-house venture of Kyobo Life Insurance created to help working moms achieve a balanced success between work and life. Its main service is the application 'Ohu 1si,' used by working moms and their children together. This app manages children's schedules and routes to address safety issues and supports the improvement of children's self-directed abilities. The 'Mom's Letter' feature helps overcome physical distance and fosters emotional bonds between mothers and their children.

Haenda Company was the first among prospective entrepreneurs to win the grand prize, the Minister of SMEs and Startups Award, at the '2023 W-Startup Awards,' a women's startup competition, overcoming a competition rate of 1044 to 1. Its main service, the child management platform 'Ohu 1si,' has steadily gained popularity through word of mouth among working moms in their 30s and 40s.

After spinning off, Haenda Company plans to continue generating results through ongoing collaboration with Kyobo Life Insurance. Haenda Company provides guidance on insurance products necessary for working moms, such as Kyobo Life's women's health insurance, children's insurance, and education insurance. Additionally, Kyobo Life offers Haenda Company's paid services, 'Mom's Letter' and 'Child Behavior Diagnosis Service,' as free add-on services to its products, expecting a win-win effect for both companies.

Kyobo Life Insurance will also continue supporting Haenda Company's growth. To ensure stable management, it will invest in shares and provide startup support funds so that the in-house venture can freely pursue various challenges and attempts.

Currently, Kyobo Life Insurance is taking the lead in actively supporting in-house ventures. In June 2021, it became the first in the insurance industry to introduce an in-house venture system, creating an organizational culture that respects new challenges and innovation, laying the foundation for future growth engines such as discovering new businesses. It is also meaningful in nurturing excellent talents who have experienced startup processes, insurance expertise, and digital capabilities.

In addition to providing separate office spaces, Kyobo Life actively supports startup preparation costs and opportunities for external expert consulting such as accelerators. So far, it has selected and nurtured a total of 15 teams through the first and second rounds, and currently, four teams in the third round are preparing to promote in-house commercialization. Previously, Kyobo Life was recognized for these in-house venture achievements and was selected as the 'Best Company' in the Startup Promotion Agency's in-house venture nurturing program in the financial sector for the first time in March last year.

A Kyobo Life Insurance official said, "The implementation of the in-house venture system aims to secure future new growth engines by spreading a culture of challenge and creativity. We hope Haenda Company becomes a successful open innovation model through outstanding achievements by internal employees, and we will continue to provide full support for in-house ventures at the company level."
