Kick-off Meeting for Research Service to Re-certify Child-Friendly City at Advanced Level on the 5th
4-Year Plan to Be Established After 7 Months of Standard Surveys and Resident Feedback Collection
Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Su-hee) announced on the 9th that it held a Child-Friendly City Promotion Committee meeting on the 5th and conducted a kickoff briefing for a research project aimed at creating a child-friendly city.
Gangdong-gu was the 7th city nationwide to receive UNICEF Child-Friendly City certification in 2017, and four years later, in 2021, it obtained an advanced-level certification, recognizing it as a higher-standard child-friendly city than before.
This research project is being promoted to establish a plan (for four years) for the upcoming advanced-level re-certification of the child-friendly city next year. From April, the plan will be finalized after about seven months of standard surveys and collecting residents' opinions.
First, the standard survey will identify the living conditions of children and diagnose the local community environment. The survey will target children, guardians, and child-related personnel (teachers, workers at child-related institutions, etc.) to assess whether the city they live in is child-friendly, focusing on six areas: ▲ Play and Culture ▲ Participation and Respect ▲ Safety and Protection ▲ Health and Welfare ▲ Educational Environment ▲ Family Environment.
Additionally, by gathering various opinions and demands from residents, a four-year promotion plan with key tasks will be established.
Lee Su-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “This research will play an important role in diagnosing the current status of Gangdong-gu’s child policies and setting directions,” adding, “We will strive to include newer content and achieve the best possible results.”
