Junggu 'Senior Club' Opens... Ushering in the Era of Working at 100 Years Old

"Jung-gu has already entered a super-aged society. The elderly population ratio is 21.1%, the third highest among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul. Creating good jobs for senior citizens is something Jung-gu must naturally do."

On the 8th, at the opening ceremony of the 'Jung-gu Senior Club' (52 Toegye-ro 80-gil), Kim Gil-seong, the mayor of Jung-gu, emphasized the importance of creating jobs for the elderly.

The Senior Club is an institution that provides employment education and counseling for senior citizens to offer stable jobs. It plans to create and provide 572 new jobs so that seniors can continue to do the work they want even after retirement.

There are 329 public service-type jobs such as △Zero Illegal Cameras (checking illegal cameras in public restrooms, illegal filming prevention campaigns) △Coffee Fragrance (collecting coffee grounds and making air fresheners) △Traditional Market Love Group (traditional market environmental maintenance), and 183 social service-type jobs such as △Dodam Caregivers (supporting child welfare facilities) △Senior Friends (companionship for elderly in long-term care facilities) △Youth Star Fairy Tale Narration Group (children’s stick puppet performances) △Senior Administrative Assistants (supporting public institutions, museums, and small business associations).

In addition, the Seoul Jung-gu Senior Club secures 60 market-type jobs differentiated from other senior clubs. The plan is to create a structure where seniors can directly distribute and sell goods in Jung-gu’s traditional markets to generate profits.

A senior from Sindang 5-dong who attended the opening ceremony said, "Until now, most jobs provided to the elderly were short-term, which was disappointing," and expressed expectations by saying, "With the Senior Club established, there are more job options."

Mayor Kim Gil-seong said, "I believe providing good jobs for the elderly is the best welfare," and added, "Jung-gu will continue to support and do its best to encourage the passion of seniors who want to work."
