Gwanak-gu Supports Urban Manufacturing Work Environment Improvement Again This Year

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is recruiting companies to participate in the ‘2024 Urban Manufacturing Work Environment Improvement Support Project’.

The ‘2024 Urban Manufacturing Work Environment Improvement Support Project’ is a program aimed at creating a safe working environment for five major urban manufacturing industries including garment manufacturing, machinery and metal, printing, jewelry, and handmade shoes. Last year, the district selected and supported 46 companies.

When selected for the project, the district prioritizes support for improving poor working conditions where workers are constantly exposed to harmful substances such as dust and poor ventilation due to the nature of the work, by providing ▲fire extinguishers ▲fire detectors ▲circuit breakers ▲installation costs for wiring boxes, etc.

Additionally, items for improving the working environment such as ▲ducts ▲exhaust fans ▲air purifiers ▲heating and cooling devices, as well as items to enhance work efficiency such as ▲vacuum dies ▲cutting tables ▲pressing machines are also supported. The support amount is up to 5 million KRW per company, with a self-payment of 550,000 KRW.

The support target is small manufacturers registered as businesses in Gwanak-gu with fewer than 10 regular employees.

Companies wishing to participate can check the recruitment announcement on the Gwanak-gu Office website (News & Notices → Public Announcements), fill out the application form, and submit it by email, visit, or mail to the Gwanak-gu Office Regional Commercial Revitalization Division by 6 PM on April 16.

Supported companies will be finally selected in May after on-site inspections by the district and deliberation by the Seoul City selection committee. The selection scale is a total of 1,000 companies across the five major urban manufacturing industries in 25 autonomous districts.

A district official said, “Through this support project, we hope workers can work in a safe and pleasant environment that helps improve work efficiency,” adding, “We will continue to promote various support policies to strengthen the self-sustainability and competitiveness of small urban manufacturers.”

Since February 2021, the district has opened and operated the ‘Gwanak-gu Small Garment Manufacturing Collaboration Center,’ a joint infrastructure facility for urban small manufacturers, in the areas of Sinsa-dong, Jowon-dong, and Miseong-dong, where garment manufacturing small manufacturers are concentrated.

The center is equipped with ▲cutting rooms, CAD rooms ▲training rooms, pattern rooms ▲shared workshops, and has special equipment such as cutting machines, pattern CAD, and sewing machines, which require high initial investment or are difficult for general small manufacturers to operate.

Additionally, the district supports various programs for local small manufacturers, including capacity-building education, consulting, building networks among small manufacturers in the cluster, developing joint brands and products for garment manufacturing small manufacturers, and opening sales channels, serving as a strong support for urban manufacturing small manufacturers working in poor environments.
