Targeting Allegations of Misconduct Against the Second Son
Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who is running in the upcoming November presidential election, is reportedly planning to launch retaliatory investigations against President Joe Biden's family regarding allegations of misconduct involving Biden's second son if he re-enters the White House.
On the 8th (local time), U.S. media cited a source from the Trump campaign saying, "Everything seen from Biden's Department of Justice (regarding Trump's indictment) will be visible from Trump's Department of Justice."
Trump's camp intends to specifically target Hunter Biden, President Biden's second son, over allegations of misconduct. Hunter is suspected of exploiting his father's influence to gain unfair benefits while serving as an executive at the Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings during Joe Biden's tenure as Vice President from 2009 to 2017.
Although Republican members of the House of Representatives are conducting impeachment investigations, no direct link to President Biden has yet been found. However, Trump's side argues that since he has been indicted, President Biden should also be indicted. Earlier in January, Trump stated, "Joe (President Biden) opened a huge Pandora's box by weaponizing the Department of Justice against me, his political opponent."
Trump's team has indicated that if he wins the presidential election, the federal Department of Justice's indictment of Trump will set a precedent for investigating and prosecuting President Biden's family. Previously, the federal Department of Justice appointed a special counsel to investigate Trump on charges of illegal disclosure of classified documents and attempts to overturn the 2020 election results. The special counsel criminally indicted Trump last year on these charges.
Meanwhile, the final report of the impeachment investigation against President Biden, led by Republican members of the House of Representatives, is expected to include recommendations for criminal prosecution. This could serve as foundational material for the criminal indictment of President Biden.
