2000㎡ Scale at Gunsan Plant 1
"Diversification of Battery Recycling Business"
Global resource circulation company DS Danseok announced on the 9th that it held a completion ceremony for its lithium-ion battery (LIB) recycling plant at the DS Danseok Gunsan Plant 1.
The event was attended by approximately 80 guests, including key figures such as Shin Young-dae, Member of the National Assembly for Gunsan City, Kang Im-jun, Mayor of Gunsan, Kim Young-il, Chairman of the Gunsan City Council, and Cho Sung-yong, Chairman of the Gunsan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with about 60 DS Danseok executives and employees.
DS Danseok constructed a new recycling plant within its Gunsan Plant 1, one of the company's main production bases, to enter the rapidly growing secondary battery market and realize a circular economy. As a result, Gunsan Plant 1 now handles LIB metals in addition to its existing recycled lead and copper alloy production.
The plant, completed over 11 months from May last year to last month, covers an area of 2,000㎡ (604 pyeong) and includes factory buildings, office buildings, and laboratory buildings. The total investment amount is approximately 8 billion KRW.
With this plant expansion, the annual processing capacity for waste LIBs reaches about 8,000 tons. The extractable active material (Black Mass) is approximately 5,000 tons per year.
Kim Jong-wan, CEO of DS Danseok, stated, "We are diversifying our battery recycling business portfolio in line with future changes, covering recycled lead, copper alloy, and LIB secondary batteries," adding, "We will further develop and expand our circular economy business model to contribute to the local community and national economy and become a model company in the industry."
