Wildfire Disaster Alert 'Warning' Expanded Nationwide

The Korea Forest Service announced on the 8th at 3 p.m. that it has expanded the national wildfire disaster crisis alert level 'Warning' from some areas of Incheon, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon to the entire country except Jeju Island.

The expansion of the crisis alert was made considering the increased risk of wildfires nationwide. A total of 14 wildfires occurred across the country the previous day.

Currently, some areas are still under dry weather advisories and strong wind preliminary warnings, increasing the risk of wildfires and the possibility of large-scale fires.

In particular, the Korea Forest Service is concerned that wildfire risks will rise further as outdoor activities such as hiking and farming increase in line with the National Assembly election day on the 10th.

Lee Jong-su, the Forest Disaster Control Officer of the Korea Forest Service, said, “There is no rain forecast for the time being, and daytime temperatures are expected to rise, leading to continued dry atmospheric conditions,” adding, “We ask rural and farming communities to participate in wildfire prevention by refraining from burning rice paddies, fields, or any kind of waste.”
