Gwangju National Science Museum Hosts 'Space Odyssey Spring Festival'

The Space Odyssey Spring Festival is the National Gwangju Science Museum’s signature spring event held annually in April and May. This year, from the 19th of this month to the 6th of next month, a variety of events including exhibition experiences, crafts, cultural performances, and science lectures centered on fascinating science will take place.

This event is organized around three main themes: ▲‘Science Class,’ a fascinating science craft experience ▲‘Science Pop,’ a magical and interesting exhibition experience ▲‘Science Fun&Fun,’ participatory performances and events, featuring over 20 diverse programs.

In ‘Science Class,’ participants can experience making kaleidoscopes and periscopes using the principles of light reflection and mirrors, create their own space rockets to understand the principles of rocket launches, and engage in sandcraft activities where they can directly observe volcanoes, folds and faults, and rock thin sections to experience the living, moving Earth.

‘Science Pop’ focuses on interactive exhibits demonstrating scientific principles such as light, sound, and gravity. Visitors can also enjoy a VR photo zone set in space, a sketch wall, trick art, drawing activities, and fun science experiences on the science mobile bus covering various themes including astronomy, science, and safety.

In the participatory performance and event section ‘Science Fun&Fun,’ a Science Flea Market will be held where visitors can practice environmental love by buying, selling, and exchanging used books and toys that are no longer used at home. During the festival weekends, the museum will also host an AI fusion concert, busking, classical music performances in the music-filled science museum, and various artistic performances, creating a science museum flowing with art.

Additionally, there will be various programs for all generations, including an AI fusion concert that makes artificial intelligence easy to understand while enjoying performances as a family, and an adult-only program ‘Science Night Festival ? Our Night is More Beautiful Than Your Day,’ where adults can enjoy science at their level.

On Children’s Day during the festival, special events such as bubble shows and science plays will be held for family visitors to enjoy. Throughout the festival, the museum’s main facilities will be illuminated at night, allowing visitors to appreciate the even more beautiful night view of the science museum.

Kim Hyun-seung, Senior Researcher at the National Gwangju Science Museum, said, “We have prepared this festival so that visitors who come to the National Gwangju Science Museum on warm spring days can fully experience fascinating scientific principles that feel like magic through science cultural events that the whole family can enjoy together.” He added, “We hope families will come for a science picnic during the festival and enjoy the programs that make science feel like play.”
