Customer Requesting Sample Bread Packaging, Says to Employee's Refusal, "Kids Need to Try It to Buy Next Time"

Bakery Part-Time Worker Story Goes Viral
"Please Pack Some Bread for Kids to Taste"

A story about a customer who requested to have tasting bread separately packaged at a bakery has become a hot topic. On the 6th, A, who identified themselves as a part-time worker at the bakery, shared on an online community, “The previous evening (the 5th), a customer paid for two cream puffs and four sausage breads, left, then came back and asked, ‘Do you have tasting bread here?’ I replied, ‘Yes, we do,’” and recounted the story.

A said, “After guiding the customer to where the tasting bread was, I asked, ‘Would you like to try some?’ The customer tasted 3 to 4 pieces of the tasting bread and said, ‘The bread tastes good. It’s the kind my kids like,’ then requested to have the tasting bread packaged.”

When A explained to the customer, “Tasting bread is literally for customers to try before purchasing, so packaging is not allowed,” the customer countered, “Since this bread is given for customers to try, why can’t I take it home and eat it? My kids at home need to taste it so they’ll buy it next time.”

Despite the employee’s refusal, the customer did not back down, leading to a dispute. The customer asked A, “Are you the owner?” in a challenging tone, and A replied, “I’m an employee, not the owner.” Then the customer demanded, “I’ll speak directly to the owner, so please call them.” When told the owner was not present, the customer said, “Well, that’s good. Since the owner isn’t here, no one will know if you package a little for me.”

A said, “I felt like I was having a conversation alone,” and added, “No matter how much I said it was not allowed, it was useless. After about 10 minutes of arguing, the customer made a call and then left after saying something like, ‘You’ve been working a long time~ This place is a mess,’ as if cursing.”

They continued, “After dealing with this for about 10 minutes, I felt completely drained and dizzy. I believe tasting bread cannot be packaged, but in cases like this, who is right?” and asked for opinions.

Netizens who read the story responded with comments like, “If kindness continues, people think it’s a right,” and “If you’re going to feed your kids anyway, buy something good with money,” urging to maintain common sense.
