A school violence incident occurred in which a new middle school student was gang assaulted by a group of senior students just six days after entering the school. The perpetrator posted a video of the assault on social media (SNS) and showed no remorse by uploading photos of a family trip to Jeju Island during the 'suspension from school' period, causing the victim to suffer mental distress.

On the 8th, YTN reported an incident of group assault that took place in early last month at a middle school in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, shortly after the new semester began. Middle school student A was surrounded and assaulted by a group of second-year students in broad daylight in front of the school gate. As a result, A was unable to attend school for two weeks.

Meanwhile, the perpetrator proudly posted a video of the assault on SNS, which showed a male student grabbing A’s hair and striking her abdomen with his knee. The video also captured multiple slaps to A’s face. It was reported that the perpetrators continued the assault because they believed A had spoken ill of them.

The school received a report of the school violence and issued an emergency disciplinary action, suspending the perpetrator from attending school for five days. However, during this period, the perpetrator posted photos of a family trip to Jeju Island on SNS, causing A to cry twice. Although the school stated that the trip was pre-scheduled, the victim A expressed mental anguish, saying, “I’m scared to go to school.”

Additionally, A’s father told YTN, “Even after three weeks, the disciplinary committee to determine the level of punishment for the school violence has not been held.” In response, the school stated, “The investigation by the education office responsible for school violence cases was delayed,” and added, “We are making efforts to protect the victim, such as escorting her to the school gate after dismissal.”

The police have booked the perpetrator on assault charges and plan to transfer the case to the prosecution once the investigation is complete. It was also reported that students who were present and involved in filming and distributing the video will be sent to prosecution after assessing their level of involvement.
