Households with children and adolescents aged 8-19 years in compulsory education and with income below 100% of the median income
Selected for Seoul City's Support Project for the Vulnerable, securing an additional budget of 50 million KRW
Second application for the Dream Study Room Expansion Project open until the 30th of this month
Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it has secured an additional budget of 50 million KRW for the “Dream Study Room Creation Project,” which provides comfortable study rooms for children and adolescents living in poor housing conditions, and will significantly expand the number of beneficiaries from the original 35 households to 60 households.
The “Dream Study Room Creation Project,” launched for the first time this year, was established to guarantee the right to study for children and adolescents who lack study spaces or desks at home due to financial difficulties.
The support targets are owner-occupied or rented households with school-age children (born between 2006 and 2017) whose income is at or below 100% of the median income, prioritizing multi-child, single-parent, and multicultural families. Each household can freely select from a total of seven items including desks, chairs, bookshelves, LED lighting, blackout curtains, wallpapering, and flooring, with a limit of 2 million KRW per household. Applications can also be made concurrently with the Hope House Repair program.
Earlier, in February, the district recruited a total of 35 households: 25 households in airport noise control areas (with 50 million KRW from the Airport Corporation’s public project funds) and 10 households in other areas (with 20 million KRW from district funds).
A district official explained, “In March, this project was selected in Seoul’s ‘2024 Support Project for Local Governments in Partnership with the Vulnerable,’ securing an additional budget of 50 million KRW. Accordingly, we will select an additional 25 households, about 70% of the original 35 households, across all areas, enabling support for a total of 60 households.”
With the expansion and implementation of the project, the second round of applications will be accepted until the 30th of this month. Those who wish to apply should visit their local community service center.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “I am pleased that the Dream Study Room Creation Project for students from vulnerable housing conditions has been expanded through the selection in Seoul’s partnership project with the vulnerable, allowing more students to benefit. We will continue to take further steps in housing welfare so that many low-income families living in poor housing environments can live in more comfortable conditions.”
