First Selection of Graduate School Presidential Science Scholars... 2 Million KRW Monthly for Doctoral Program

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 7th that it has finalized the selection of 120 graduate students for the Presidential Science Scholarship in STEM fields and will begin disbursing scholarships immediately starting in April.

The Graduate Presidential Science Scholarship was newly established this year following President Yoon Seok-yeol's directive to create a differentiated scholarship support program for STEM graduate students. Previously, the program was only available to undergraduate students.

This year, the new scholarship recipients include 50 master's students (25 new students, 25 continuing students) and 70 doctoral students (30 new students, 40 continuing students) across 17 fields. The selection competition rate was approximately 25:1.

Final recipients of the Graduate Presidential Science Scholarship will be awarded a certificate of scholarship in the name of the President. Master's students will receive 1.5 million KRW per month (18 million KRW annually, up to 36 million KRW), and doctoral students will receive 2 million KRW per month (24 million KRW annually, up to 96 million KRW) in scholarship funds.

The selection results can be checked from 9 a.m. on the 8th on the Korea Student Aid Foundation website (www.kosaf.go.kr).

The Ministry of Science and ICT stated, “We will promptly expand the Graduate Presidential Science Scholarship promised by President Yoon Seok-yeol and introduce the STEM graduate student research living scholarship (Korean-style stipend) to create an environment where STEM graduate students can focus on their research without worrying about living expenses.”
