On the 7th, at Teddy Valley Golf & Resort in Seogwipo, Jeju Island (par 72, 6,685 yards), Hwang Yumin finished the 4th round of the KLPGA Tour Doosan Construction Weave Championship (total prize money 1.2 billion KRW) by reducing one stroke to secure a one-stroke victory (14-under 274). This marks her second career win, nine months after the Daeyu Winia MBN Women’s Open last July, with a winner’s prize of 216 million KRW. She ranked first in prize money (252.66 million KRW), points for the Player of the Year (106 points), and average score (69.36 strokes).
Despite her small stature of 163 cm, Hwang Yumin is a player known for her strong and fast swing that delivers powerful long drives. As a rookie last year, she ranked second in the long drive category and earned the nickname ‘Dolgyuk Daejang’ (Assault Captain) for her aggressive play. In this tournament, she especially competed against tall long hitters throughout the four days and emerged victorious. In rounds 1 and 2, she played alongside 2022’s long drive leader Yoon Ina and last year’s long drive champion Bang Shin-sil. In the 3rd round, she faced last year’s third-ranked long hitter Moon Jeong-min, and on the final day, she competed against Park Hye-jun and Kang Ji-seon, both over 170 cm tall.
On the final day, Hwang Yumin recorded three birdies and two bogeys. Her shots wavered, causing her to lose the lead with consecutive bogeys on holes 2 and 3. However, she changed the momentum with a 1.2 m birdie putt on the 4th hole (par 5), then secured birdies on the 6th and 9th holes (both par 4), pulling ahead by two strokes. Despite facing several challenges afterward, she saved par multiple times and enjoyed the joy of victory.
Park Hye-jun added two under par to claim second place (13-under 275). Her previous best finishes were two tied 10th places at the 2022 Lotte Open and KLPGA Championship. Park Hye-jun regained her KLPGA Tour card after finishing 8th in last year’s Dream (2nd tier) Tour money rankings. Park Hyun-kyung and Kang Ji-seon tied for third place (12-under 276). Shin Ji-ae tied for 31st (3-under 285), Yoon Ina tied for 34th (2-under 286), and defending champion Lee Ye-won finished tied for 42nd (1-under 287).
