Seongdong-gu Conducts Safety Training for Construction Workers Ahead of Thawing Season

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) conducted a training session on the 5th at the Seongdong-gu Office auditorium for construction site personnel in the area to prevent disaster accidents at construction sites and improve safety awareness.

During the thawing season, as the frozen ground from winter melts due to rising temperatures, the risk of safety accidents such as facility subsidence, collapse, and falling rocks increases, making it a period that requires special attention to safety.

In particular, since the Serious Accidents Punishment Act has been expanded to apply to construction projects under 5 billion KRW starting January 27 this year, Seongdong-gu plans to enhance safety awareness among construction personnel and raise vigilance through safety education to prevent potential accidents.

The training was attended by personnel from 118 local construction sites and related department officials. A construction safety expert was invited to provide explanations on the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the new risk assessment methods.

Additionally, accident cases that could occur at construction sites were shared, with special emphasis on the responsibilities and roles of construction personnel. Training was also provided on safety management techniques for heavy equipment such as excavators and cranes, which can lead to major accidents.

A construction official who attended the training said, “I was not well informed about the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, but this was a good opportunity to learn how it is applied in actual construction sites. Through accident cases, I realized how important it is to follow safety rules on site. Based on what I learned, I will strictly adhere to safety regulations to create accident-free construction sites.”

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, emphasized, “No matter how much the importance of safety is stressed, it can never be overemphasized, so please be thorough in on-site safety management.” He added, “We will do our best to create accident-free construction sites and, furthermore, a flawlessly safe city of Seongdong through continuous safety education.”
