Provided Clean Care Service to 30 Households Last Year
Selected for Seoul City's Support Project for the Vulnerable
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 6th that it is operating the ‘Seocho Clean (Cleaning and Organizing) Care’ project, which provides housing environment improvement services such as cleaning and disinfection to vulnerable groups who have difficulty organizing due to psychological and economic reasons.
Clean Care is a resident welfare project of Seocho-gu that started in 2019. It was initiated to provide a clean and pleasant living environment for reclusive and hoarding households. Last year, Clean Care services were provided to 30 households, and its excellence and effectiveness were recognized, leading to its selection in this year’s ‘2024 Seoul City Support Project for Local Governments Accompanying the Vulnerable’ competition.
The project targets households in need of housing improvement, identified by utilizing local human resources such as community centers, welfare centers, and welfare communities (including members of the Dong Community Security Council, honorary social welfare officers, and neighborhood leaders). Seocho-gu then commissions professional cleaning companies to provide the services.
Along with organizing spaces and disposing of waste, experts assess symptoms of hoarding disorder and conduct exercises to practice discarding and organizing by the residents themselves, providing spatial healing that soothes the lives and minds of the households. Additionally, it is a customized service that includes follow-up care such as organizing education and psychological counseling, aiming to care for both the living spaces and the minds of vulnerable groups.
Seocho-gu links the service with elderly-tailored care services and meal delivery for the households, and the local community centers continue to monitor intensively.
Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, “We will listen more carefully to residents who need help in various aspects of their lives and actively strive to provide customized services.”
