As of 5 p.m. on the first day of early voting for the 22nd general election on the 5th, the voter turnout rate was recorded at 14.08% of the total eligible voters.


According to the National Election Commission, 6,235,274 out of 44,280,011 eligible voters had cast their ballots in early voting, which began at 6 a.m. that day.


The turnout rate of 14.08% is 3.15 percentage points higher compared to the early voting turnout rate at the same time during the 21st general election in 2020 (10.93%). The turnout rate as of 5 p.m. is the highest for that time slot in general elections where early voting has been applied.


However, it is 1.76 percentage points lower than the early voting turnout rate at the same time during the 2022 20th presidential election, which had the highest early voting turnout rate in nationwide elections (15.84%).


The region with the highest turnout so far is Jeonnam (21.79%), followed by Jeonbuk (19.48%), Gwangju (18.07%), and Gangwon (16.22%). The lowest turnout was recorded in Daegu at 11.05%, followed by Gyeonggi (12.58%), Incheon (13.03%), and Ulsan (13.07%). Seoul’s turnout rate was 14.17%.


Early voting will take place over two days, from the 5th to the 6th.


Voting hours are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and to participate in early voting, voters must bring an ID and visit an early voting station.
