Busan Northern Office of Education Operates Multicultural Communication and Empathy Program

'Northern Multicultural Students Customized Education Hub' Project

Busan Northern Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Beom-gyu) announced on the 5th that it will operate the 'Multicultural Communication and Empathy Program' for kindergartens, elementary, and middle schools until November.

This program is part of the 'Northern Multicultural Student Customized Education Hub' project, which has been underway since the second half of last year.

It was established to reduce academic achievement gaps among multicultural students and enhance their socio-emotional skills by operating various courses with continuity and linkage in daily life, such as during the curriculum and after-school hours.

To this end, the Northern Office of Education operates two courses: 'Fun Korean Class' with a storytelling instructor and 'Joyful Companionship' with homeroom teachers.

'Fun Korean Class' is conducted by professional storytelling instructors visiting schools for 116 kindergarten and elementary classes. These instructors provide storytelling lessons aimed at improving literacy skills such as vocabulary and background knowledge for multicultural students (young children).

'Joyful Companionship' involves homeroom teachers and multicultural students participating together in various experiential activities such as Korean language, play, culture, and arts. It is operated for 45 elementary and middle school classes, focusing on enhancing students' school adaptation skills.

Kim Beom-gyu, Superintendent of the Northern Office of Education, said, “Our education support office will strive to establish the 'Northern Multicultural Student Customized Education Hub' and do our best to provide systematic and comprehensive support for multicultural students.”
